Lahore: The governing body of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to conduct its much-anticipated LDA City plot ballot, geared towards allocating plot numbers against the files sold for its phase I project, with the help of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) — a news source has reported. As announced earlier by the authority, the ballot for these plots will be held on November 30.

This decision was taken in the 10th meeting of LDA’s governing body, which was chaired by LDA Vice Chairman S.M Imran. The members of the meeting also finalised the details of other important matters, including:
- The auction of LDA City plots reserved for schools and hospitals
- Policy for sale of LDA City commercial plots
- Renaming LDA City Phase I to ‘Jinnah Sector’
- Reserving a quota of apartments built under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) in Lahore, for employees of the Water and Sanitation Authority, LDA (Urban Development Wing) and the Traffic Engineering and Planning Authority (TEPA)
- Construction of 50,000 NPHP apartments for other Punjab government employees and general public
- Authorising the concerned director to waive off the building-period surcharge on owners of LDA Avenue-I plots, for which the authority has failed to provide utility services and road infrastructure

Furthermore, the governing body directed the LDA director general to form a comprehensive mechanism to take legal action against developers of illegal housing schemes in Lahore. For this purpose, members of the meeting agreed to hire lawyers to form a legal panel that will pursue the estimated 12,000 property cases and land-disputes that are currently pending in the courts.

The LDA governing body decided that NPHP apartments will be constructed in Mouza Haloki for approximately 9,500 WASA, TEPA and LDA employees. These residential units will be offered on a flexible and convenient payment plan.
The governing body also approved the construction of a total of 50,000 low cost apartment units for the general public and other provincial government employees.
