The new portal eliminates the manual registration process of NGOs in Punjab and will help organisations switch to a digital platform. The development stemmed from directives of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to prevent money laundering related complaints, and a strict monitoring system exercised by the authorities to ensure transparency.

Under the first phase of the restructuring, thousands on non-operational NGOs have been de-registered and all previously-registered NGOs were audited. In the second phase, the registration system will switch to the Charity Registration Portal. The welfare firms will now be required to apply online for their registration.
Furthermore, the new system will enable the concerned departments to timely obtain information regarding welfare firms from the newly-established portal.
