Lahore: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced its intention to start international flights and additional domestic flights to and from Gwadar on the completion of the New Gwadar Airport, according to a news source published on November 5.

The said announcement was made by PIA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Air Marshal Arshad Malik during his visit to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on Wednesday. During the said visit, the RCCI members requested the CEO to initiate direct flights from Islamabad to Gwadar, the United States and Europe. Air Marshal Malik assured the business community that the flight operations would be adjusted in order to meet the needs of the people and the commercial validity of the flights.

He went to reveal that at present, the flights to Gwadar were being operated via Karachi owing to the shorter runway and substandard refuelling set-up in the port city. He added that flights to Europe and the United States would be resumed once the pending approvals had been cleared and all flight restrictions had been lifted.
