Islamabad: Based on the efforts of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) engineering department, the national airline has now become equipped to carry out Boeing 777 aircraft maintenance checks in Islamabad, according to a news report. Earlier, this facility had only been available in Karachi – resulting in higher operating costs for the airline.

As per the report, PIA’s savings are expected to increase as a result of this measure, and its flight schedule will be made more cost-effective for customers.
Further, PIA spokesperson Mashhood Tajwar revealed that the airline had upgraded its facility in Islamabad and could now carry out Boeing 777 maintenance checks (‘Check A’) without having the aircraft fly all the way to Karachi for the purpose (which, according to some speculation, had formerly been the case).

The official termed this development as a significant achievement – especially following the recent enhancements made to the technical capability of the Islamabad airport to see to the running of the A320 aircraft. He added that PIA’s engineering department in the capital city had performed its first successful ‘Check A’ on a Boeing 777 aircraft after it had completed 1,000 flying hours.
He informed that the department would now perform these checks regularly with approval from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA).
