Islamabad: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced a 44% increase in its revenue collection during the first six months of the current (fiscal year) FY2019-20, a news source reported. As per officials, the national flag carrier generated these increments following the addition of new profitable routes to its flying schedules – including those passing through the Gulf countries.

Further, during the first six months of the current fiscal year, the airline’s deficit decreased from PKR 21 billion to PKR 5 billion; with more than 75% decrease recorded in operational losses during the said time period.
As per reports, the operational deficit of the airline has decreased by more than 6 billion, going from PKR 38.5 billion to PKR 32 billion. According to a financial report published by the Aviation Ministry, the new reforms to the airline are proving to be beneficial and are showing favourable results.

According to the officials, the PIA recently introduced various services and policies that contributed to the increase in revenue and improvement in services. One of these recent developments included the national airline becoming equipped to carry out Boeing 777 aircraft maintenance checks in Islamabad, which were previously only available in Karachi. This has led to a decrease in overall operational costs for the airline.
