Sialkot: Philippines Acting Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy Maria Agnes M Cervantes said on Thursday (October 20) that her country is ready to increase mutual trade with Pakistan to gain maximum bilateral benefits, news sources reported.

Ms Cervantes made these remarks while speaking at a Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) conference. She stated that both countries have vast untapped commerce potential that should be explored through bilateral agreements and people-to-people contacts. She also emphasized the benefits of commerce between the two countries, saying it has to be strengthened further to benefit the people.
Speaking at the event, SCCI President Abdul Ghafoor Malik stated that the mutual trade volume of the two countries in 2021 was USD 217 million, which could be increased via collaborative efforts. He emphasised the importance of cooperation between the two countries to enhance trade opportunities.

It is worth noting that Sialkot has emerged as one of Pakistan’s fastest-developing industrial cities, and it is well-known for its manufacturing of football and other sports equipment. Sialkot-originated footballs have also been secured for the forthcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
