Islamabad: The Prime Minister’s COVID-19 Relief Fund has, so far, received more than PKR 3.5 billion in donations, including funds from philanthropists and firms from around the country as well as from overseas Pakistanis, a news source reported. PM’s Focal Person on Corona Philanthropy Drive Khurshid Alam recently expressed his views on the matter, detailing these figures.

He added that the authorities concerned will commence with the disbursement of cash from COVID-19 Relief Fund to the deserving people. He said that the PM Khan wanted the total amount to reach close to PKR 20 billion to better help people whose livelihoods have been affected due to the coronavirus crunch. He explained that a database on the pattern of Ehsaas Programme will be prepared for disbursing the funds.

He said the government aims to also reach the workers who are not registered with the authorities; adding that even those who used to earn PKR 35,000 per month but their employment was affected by coronavirus. He added that every Pakistani could donate Rs20 to the fund by sending a blank SMS at 6677.
