Peshawar: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has issued a stay order to stop the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for new housing projects in the city, according to a news source published today (August 21). The bench, comprised of Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth and Justice Ikramullah Khan, was responding to a petition filed against amendments to the KP Local Government Act, 2013.

This amendment allows private land developers to register potential plot owners without getting prior approval for the project from the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA). This includes collecting membership fees from customers. A number of people submitted a petition against this amendment to the KP Local Government Act, 2013, titled the KP Local Government (Second Amendment) Act, 2020. They stated to the PHC that these amendments were detrimental to potential customers, and were made to benefit certain organisations.

In addition, the petitioners opposed these amendments because they believe that they could allow private developers to deceive consumers about the status and legality of a particular project.
