Lahore: The Punjab government on Tuesday tasked its Housing and Town Planning Agency, PHATA, with the supervision of the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) project – a news source reported.

A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting of the housing task force, which was presided over by Provincial Minister for Housing and Urban Development Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed.
Task Force Chairman Yaqoob Tahir, NESPAK Managing Director Dr Tahir Masood – along with representatives of the Housing Department and Bank of Punjab – also attended the meeting.

The participants were informed that the legal framework for the NPHP project was being prepared. The minister said that the necessary amendments would be made to the existing laws on urban development.

Moreover, he invited the private sector to collaborate with the provincial government on the project. Those willing to participate will be offered certain incentives. He said that a comprehensive policy on housing would be devised in consultation with private builders and developers.
