Islamabad: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman (retired) Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain on Tuesday (November 23) said that the initial phase of the Kurram Tangi dam project will be completed by 2023, news sources reported. He said that the completion of the project would bring sustainable development and support agriculture in remote areas of the province.
As per the details, the project management briefed the chairman about the progress of the dam and stated that the project will be completed within the current time frame with expedited work. Reportedly, Kurram Tangi Dam is one of the projects being developed in Spinwam, North Wazirstan, to elevate former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
The completion of first stage of the project would result in the irrigation of 16,380 acres of land and the generation of about 19 MW of electricity. The project is being funded by the United States Aid for International Development (USAID) with USD 80 million while another USD 45 million will be provided by Italian Bank as a soft loan to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
