Peshawar: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister (CM) on Information and Higher Education and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government spokesperson Kamran Bangash on Thursday (September 2) announced that the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project will receive PKR 2.8 billion subsidy during the fiscal year 2021-22, according to media reports.

While talking to the media, the special assistant stated that the BRT has higher ridership than other mass transit services in the country. As per the details shared, more than 160,000 passengers use BRT every day. He added that the fare for BRT is lowest – starting from PKR 10 – in comparison to other services as the average fare was PKR 20.
Moreover, Kamran Bangash mentioned that mass transit services all over the world depend on subsidies. It is important to mention that the Multan Metro received PKR 3.6 billion subsidy, Orange Line Metro Train got PKR 8 billion, and Lahore Metro got PKR 4.1 billion subsidy from the Punjab government.
