Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Wednesday (July 07) announced that it will be issuing tenders for the development of the 8.7-kilometre-long northern portion of the Peshwar Ring Road in August, according to news sources. The issuance of tenders was subjected to the project’s approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

As per the Twitter handle of KP Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, the Peshawar Ring Road’s missing link from Warsak Road to Nasirbagh Road is approved by the ECNEC at a revised cost of PKR 16.6 billion. He said that this development will enable Peshawar Development Authority to issue tenders within the next month. Minister Jhagra said that the road project will positively impact the traffic.
Under the revised plans, the 8.7-kilometre-long, six-lane dual carriageway will be developed with service roads, a flyover at the Warsak Road intersection, and another at Regi-Palosi Road. Moreover, two bridges will be developed over canals and three over nullah along the route. The plan also includes the construction of three underpasses to manage traffic in the area.

As per the information shared, the road section will offer a bypass to the Afghan transit trade and the areas of Jamrud Road, Askari-VI, Regi Model Town and DHA. It will also act as an alternative route for the traffic and contribute to easing the road congestion in the city. It is also aiming to offer economic development, reduced wear and tear of the city’s road network and decrease environmental pollution.
