Peshawar: The Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) on Tuesday approved the construction of high-rise buildings in the city; in addition to introducing a new clause in the existing building by-laws, a news source reported.
The decision came through during a meeting of the PDA board – chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan. The new clause added to the building by-laws allows the construction of high-rise buildings with over 10 storeys within the jurisdiction of the development authority.
PDA has allowed the construction of high-rise buildings in the wake of rapid urbanisation in Peshawar. The approval would also limit the use of agricultural land in the city for construction purposes.
Speaking at the meeting, the CM highlighted that the new addition to PDA’s building by-laws would help meet the increasing demands of the rapidly growing urbanisation in Peshawar.
Previously, other development authorities of major cities had allowed the construction of high-rise buildings within their jurisdictions. These civic agencies include the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), the Capital Development Authority (CDA), and the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA).
