Peshawar: The Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project is set to become operational on July 1, according to news sources.

As per a government official, the much-delayed Peshawar BRT project is finally becoming operational in July. He further revealed that the civil works of the project are complete and intelligent transport system installation is likely to be completed by June 25 – which is followed by the launch of the bus service.

Moreover, the official further said that the off-corridor work will continue to mitigate traffic problems. Reportedly, the Peshawar BRT project was launched in October 2017 and was delayed due to design-related troubles and frequent retrofitting – leading to cost escalations and infrastructural changes. The project cost jumped from the initial PKR 49 billion to PKR 66.43 billion.
