Peshawar: Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) has been nominated for yet another international award — World Resources Institute (WRI), Ross Centre Prize for Cities Award 2021-22, according to a news story published in the leading newspaper on July 1.

As per the details, the Peshawar BRT, also known as Zu Peshawar, has been shortlisted among five finalists for the WRI Ross Centre Prize for Cities Award. The WRI Prize for Cities Award includes all types of transformative projects in cities including climate change, water, forests, agriculture, oceans, etc. The theme of the award was ‘Thriving Together in Turbulent Times’. The institute has invited submissions from projects and initiatives representing living and thriving in turbulent times.
Moreover, the winner will be awarded a grand prize of USD 250,000 while the runners-up will be given USD 25,000 each. A total of 260 projects from 155 cities contended for the award and five finalists were chosen through an assessment by the international and multi-disciplinary evaluation team based on set criteria. Furthermore, the finalists were announced in the 11th session of the World Urban Forum that was organised in Poland on June 29. However, the grand prize winner will be announced by the year-end.

It is pertinent to note that the Peshawar BRT won two international awards earlier this year- The sustainable Transport Award and Gold Standard BRT Award. Sustainable Transport Award is for utility mobility projects while Gold Standard BRT Award is for BRT systems.
