Peshawar: Provincial Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai on Wednesday revealed that 87% of the developmental work conducted on the Bus Rapid Transit (PRT) project has been completed, according to news sources. He added that the operational control of the project would be handed over to the Transport Department once the transit system has been built.

The information minister disclosed this information while addressing a press conference, where he also briefed the gathered journalists on the performance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Transport Department over the past few years. In this regard, he declared that the department was doing quite well and had generated over PKR 2 billion over last three years.

Minister Yousafzai claimed that, in terms of expenses, the Peshawar BRT was relatively cheaper than Lahore’s Metro Bus project. He stated that buses in Lahore were rented, while those used for the BRT project were purchased.
The provincial minister talked in great detail about the BRT project. He informed that the transit system included 68-kilometres of feeder routes, and that the roads on both sides of the corridor were to be developed as well, under the same project. These included a 13-kilometers long elevated road and 3-kilometres long underpasses.

The minister concluded by revealing that mobile vehicle fitness stations were being set up in various regions, including Malakand, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Mardan, Dera Ismail Khan and Kohat.
