Karachi: Action has been planned against 4,000 people owning properties in Dubai, according to a news source. Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Minister of Pakistan Asad Umar made this statement on a television interview, where he also said that people involved in currency smuggling, hundi, and hawala would also be tackled.
Umar stressed on the need to widen the tax base and improve the FBR’s performance and talked about arrangements with the IMF, China, Saudi Arabia, and trade with Iran. He also revealed that 96,000 Pakistanis have bank accounts in 27 countries, and the government has compiled information regarding these for future action. He spoke strongly against the act of siphoning money away from the country to avoid taxes, which are necessary for the smooth functioning of an economy.
