With an estimated budget of PKR 41 million, the initiative aims to enhance tourism by providing visitors with a unique perspective of the river and its picturesque surroundings.
The decision was finalised during a PDWP meeting held on Friday, with officials expressing optimism about the project’s potential to attract tourists and contribute to the region’s economic uplift.
In addition to the cable car project, the PDWP approved a PKR 198.2 million initiative under the Chief Minister’s Fund to promote e-mechanisation through the local production of agricultural machinery. The combined value of the approved projects totals PKR 239.2 million, reflecting the government’s commitment to both tourism and technological advancement.
Earlier this year, the provincial government also announced a glass train service connecting Rawalpindi and Murree, another significant step to boost tourism. This 65-kilometre route will commence in Saddar, Rawalpindi, and traverse scenic landscapes, including the Margalla Hills and Barakahu, before reaching Bhurban in Murree.

The glass train project is part of the larger Murree Development Plan, which prioritises sustainable tourism infrastructure while enhancing the region’s appeal as a premier travel destination. Work on its initial phase, Project Concept-I (PC-I), is already underway. Both projects exemplify the government’s focus on developing innovative and sustainable solutions to promote tourism and regional growth.
