Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has devised a winter contingency plan 2021-2022 to minimise disaster risk, according to media reports published on Tuesday (December 21).

As per the details, the plan was prepared with the collaboration of all the stakeholders including the humanitarian partners, provincial & federal departments, and district administration. With the help of the plan, PDMA aims to identify hazards, risks and resource mapping, vulnerabilities, and minimise disaster risks.
PDMA Director General (DG) Sharif Hussain stated that the process of contingency plan was started in October. Sharing details, the DG disclosed that a web-based tool was developed that helped in collecting data for vulnerability and associated risks, need assessment, assessing district/ sector-specific hazards, coordination and mechanism, past winter events and consequent damages, and compensation paid.

Moreover, PDMA Risk Management Director Disaster Zuhra Nigar mentioned that PDMA has started the process of introducing a proactive preparedness regime as per the guidelines of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to reduce disaster risk and streamline response at district and provincial levels. She went on to say that through the contingency plan, the required mitigation steps and coordinated response will be taken to minimise the loss of property and life.
