Lahore: The Punjab government has authorised the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to lead all coronavirus relief activities in the province, a news source reported. In this regard, the authority will also distribute all varieties of relief goods among the public.

Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar revealed this information on Thursday. He added that the provincial government had taken this step to ensure transparency of the donations process. He also stated that the National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) had developed a single database of citizens. The government will use this database to distribute the coronavirus relief funds without duplication, the governor said.

Sarwar highlighted that the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme would go a long way in providing relief to the underprivileged people of the country — while maintaining the transparency of the distribution process. He also extended his appreciation to Relief Commissioner Punjab Baber Hayat Tarar for his efforts during the current crises.
