Islamabad: The Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives (P&D) Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal has ordered the swift completion of the Gwadar Power Plant to accelerate the region’s development and enhance its energy infrastructure, according to a news source on March 27.

In a meeting chaired by Minister Ahsan Iqbal, attended by ministry officials, PPIB’s Managing Director (MD), and the Chinese Embassy Minister Counsellor (MC) Yang Guangyuan, the urgency of completing the 300MW coal power project was emphasised. Minister Ahsan stressed the crucial role of electricity supply in Gwadar’s development, underlining its significance for the region.
Minister Ahsan highlighted the collective contribution of various CPEC projects in Gwadar to the region’s prosperity, spanning infrastructure, healthcare, and education sectors. He also acknowledged the previous government’s efforts in addressing long-standing neglect of essential services in Gwadar, particularly in the water and electricity sectors. Gwadar, termed as the “gateway of CPEC”, is set to undergo significant transformation with projects like the Gwadar Port City, New Gwadar International Airport, and East Bay Expressway.

Minister Ahsan emphasised the government’s commitment to expedite CPEC’s second phase and integrate it with new economic corridors, aiming to establish Gwadar as a vibrant maritime trade hub and a technologically advanced port.
