Peshawar: The planning and development (P&D) department has formulated an ambitious strategy worth PKR 68 billion for creating employment opportunities in the tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to a news report published on March 10.

The said strategy is titled ‘Economic Development Plan (EDP)’ and will focus on the strengthening of sectors including business, small and medium enterprise, mines/minerals, tourism, skills development, agri-business and green economics in the merged districts. A comprehensive action plan has also been developed for tribal districts that features an inclusive range of interventions for economic sectors – enabling them to bridge the capacity and resource gap.

The EDP will have short, medium and long-term projects. The projects under the EDP will be monitored by an apex committee that will be led by the additional chief secretary. It was also revealed the PKR 28 billion will be allocated for the development of skills of the residents of tribal districts.
