Lahore: The Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) has decided to form a joint working group for the promotion of tourism in Punjab, according to news published on August 25.

The PBIT held a Public-Private Dialogue to promote tourism in the province, which was presided over by Provincial Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal. During the meeting, a joint working group was created which consisted of government officials, representatives of the hotel industry, and tour operators. The minister mentioned that the province has huge tourism potential and promoting tourism is vital for the stability of the economy. He stated that there is a need to develop a coherent strategy so the tourism sector can be developed according to international standards.

Moreover, it was highlighted that the government agencies are working on the promotion of tourism; however, due there is a lack of communication and coordination. He asked the relevant authorities to maintain an events calendar for timely promotion. The minister mentioned that tourism promotion should be focused on the divisional level. It was iterated that a comprehensive Lahore tourism package must be developed keeping in mind the religious, historical, and touristic importance of the metropolis.
The officials (whose names were not disclosed) revealed that Pakistan has more domestic tourists, so the focus must be on them by providing better quality services and improving infrastructure.
