During his visit to the said park, Akhtar stated that the public wanted the Kidney Hill Park to open without delay but this was not possible due to the preventive measures in place to fight the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. He added that the park — featuring 40,000 types of trees — was a gift for the citizens from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

The mayor highlighted that the Kidney Hill Park was located at high point in the city, which would allow people to enjoy beautiful views of the area. He further revealed that residential and commercial units had previously encroached the park’s land but that the KMC had removed these encroachments.
