Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha has announced a new plan to resolve the increasing parking woes of people in the garrison city, according to news published on April 18. As per the sources, the plan proposes the construction of three additional floors on the parking plaza at Fawara Chowk, the opening of a new parking site and the restoration of free-parking areas in the basements of 38 plazas.

The commissioner has warned that legal action will be taken against plaza owners who do not restore the approved parking areas and their properties will be sealed. Moreover, unauthorized parking spaces on Iqbal Road, Liaquat Road, Jinnah Road, Kashmiri Bazar, Ganj Mandi, and Raja Bazar roads will also be eradicated.
It was announced that a letter has been issued to the Auqaf Department for land acquisition on Ghazni Road for the establishment of a new parking site. Another open parking site has also been set up on the plot of the former municipal corporation office.

Reportedly, Commissioner Chatta took notice of the growing traffic issues caused by parking on streets linked to the inner city, Commercial Market, Murree Road and other business centres. He highlighted that the deteriorating sanitation situation is adding to the difficulties of the citizens. To curb illegal parking of cars on roads, the city administration will impose heavy fines and use lifters to remove these cars.
