Islamabad: The Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) Agrotech Company, in collaboration with the Aquaculture and Fisheries Programme, launched an intensive fish farming pilot project on Wednesday (July 8), according to a news source. The project will allow for the controlled farming of various fish species, including the African Catfish, Pangasius, Channel Catfish, and Tilapia in concrete ponds.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, PARC Chairman Muhammad Azeem Khan said that the availability of fish feed and suitable fish species under this project would help enhance fish production. In this regard, PARC has been arranging training courses for scientists in methods to enhance production via pond raceway system and a biofloc farming system since 2019.

The PARC chairman further stressed that intensive fish rearing programmes needed to be launched in order to ascertain the suitability of such farming technologies. The intensive fish farming initiative will serve as a pilot project to initiate controlled fish farming in the country. The council will share results of the pilot project among farmers and the academic community by publishing research papers.
