Islamabad: Pakistan achieved a remarkable milestone in the first month of the fiscal year 2024-25, earning USD 286.395 million from the export of various Information Technology (IT) services, as reported on September 24.
As per details, this reflects an impressive growth of 33.84% compared to USD 213.980 million during the same period last year, as reported by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Among the key sectors, computer services experienced a significant surge, growing by 44.14% from USD 172.680 million last year to USD 248.899 million in July 2024. Within this category, software consultancy services saw a remarkable increase of 47.38%, rising from USD 58.425 million to USD 86.103 million.
Conversely, hardware consultancy services faced a downturn, with exports dropping by 30.68% from US USD 0.440 million to USD 0.350 million. However, repair and maintenance services exhibited extraordinary growth, skyrocketing by 1302.14%, from USD 0.035 million to USD 0.490 million. Additionally, the export of computer software services grew slightly by 1.08%, increasing from USD 50.327 million to US USD 50.868 million.
The category of other computer services also thrived, recording a 75.14% growth, rising from USD 63.453 million to USD 111.131 million. In terms of information services, exports climbed by 47.50%, growing from USD 0.300 million to USD 0.442 million. Notably, information-related services increased by 12.34%, from USD 0.114 million to USD 0.128 million, while exports of other information services surged by 69.05%, moving from USD 0.186 million to USD 0.314 million.
Despite overall growth, the export of telecommunication services saw a decline of 9.62%, dropping from USD 41 million to USD 37.053 million. Within this sector, call center services reported an increase of 33.61%, rising from USD 15.993 million to USD 21.367 million, whereas other telecommunication services decreased by 37.27%, from USD 25.007 million to USD 15.686 million.
This robust performance in the IT sector underscores Pakistan’s growing capabilities in technology and innovation, positioning the country as a competitive player in the global IT services market.
