Islamabad: The World Economic Forum (WEF) has revealed that Pakistan’s tourism ranking inched up by 6 points on the International Travel and Tourism Development index, a news source reported on May 30. The 2021 edition of the index ‘Rebuilding for a sustainable and resilient future’ now places the country at 83rd position out of 117 countries.

Pakistan was ranked among the emerging tourist markets due to the improvement in infrastructure, facilities, ease of doing business and improvement in hygiene in hotels and tourist lodges, according to Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Managing Director Aftabur Rehman Rana. He termed this improvement a ‘significant progress’ and added that the federal and provincial governments had made great efforts to upgrade the tourism sector.
It is important to note that the government has launched a number of tourism development projects in the country in the last 3 years including special tourism zones and corridors.

The International Travel and Tourism Development index ranked Japan at the top position, followed by the US, Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Singapore, and Italy
