Lahore: The plantation work at the Urban Forest being set up in the parking area of the Liberty Market, has been completed — a news source reported. Further, the inauguration of the ‘Miyawaki Jungle’ is scheduled to take place on Sunday (January 5).

The project is being developed by a private firm named Restore that has planted 6,000 saplings; expected to grow to the height of 15 feet within the next six months. The initiative is sponsored by Izhar Monnoo Developers. According to reports, the project sponsors would provide 4,000 more saplings for the said facility.

Zameen.com is the main sponsor for the inauguration ceremony that is scheduled to take place this Sunday. Federal Minister and Advisor to the Prime Minister (PM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam will be the chief guest at the event. Senior officials from the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), the Punjab government and the Punjab Forest Department are expected to attend the ceremony.

At this event, the concerned officials will also announce the Urban Forest Policy for the province. The policy is about setting up similar forests in other cities of the province to help control environmental pollution levels. The policy draft also proposes inclusion of private sector for these projects.
