Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced on Sunday the development of Asia’s best vegetable and fruit market in Lahore’s Kala Khatai area, as reported on September 16. .

As per details, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the Punjab Agriculture Marketing Regulatory Authority (PAMRA), CM Nawaz directed that the project be completed within 18 months and established as Asia’s premier market for produce.
The new market, to be located on a 300-acre site in Lahore’s Kala Khatai area, will feature world-class infrastructure and facilities, including direct access for trucks and vehicles from GT Road Gujranwala and the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway. It will also serve as an export hub, enhancing the market’s international reach.

Furthermore, plans include extending metro and speedo bus routes to the market to facilitate laborers and shopkeepers, and constructing a cold storage facility to manage the supply of essential vegetables like tomatoes and onions. This initiative aims to ensure the availability of produce at affordable prices year-round.
