Islamabad: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan on Tuesday announced the federal cabinet’s decision to send chloroquine tablets to other allied nations in an attempt to provide facilitation in the treatment of COVID-19, according to news sources.

Dr Awan revealed in a press briefing that five million of these chloroquine tablets will be sent to the United Kingdom (UK); one million each to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and United States of America (USA); 50,000 tablets each to Turkey and Italy; 700,000 tablets to Kazakhstan; and 300,000 to Qatar.

She stated that Prime Minister Imran Khan had told the cabinet meeting that leaders of several nations had contacted him and expressed their interest in importing the tablets, given their encouraging results in coronavirus treatment.
She said that Pakistan has a stock of 40 million of these tablets and has the raw material to make more. Dr Awan further opined that helping other nations in time of need would also help Pakistan to improve its relations with those countries.
