Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI)-lead government has decided to hold the country’ first convention of overseas Pakistanis in March, news sources reported on January 27. The 3-day event will take place in Islamabad and Prime Minister Imran Khan will address the participants from all around the world.

According to reports, PTI Overseas Secretary Dr Abdullah Riar met with the Minister of Planning and Development Asad Umer to negotiate the venue and other convention-related issues. It has been confirmed that the event will be attended by a large number of foreign nationals and expatriates.
The convention will showcase the prospects for non-resident Pakistanis to invest in Pakistan, as well as their contribution to the country’s economic progress. Furthermore, it was revealed that the event will focus on the provision of voting rights to expatriates and its implications for the country’s future.

It is worth noting that the government has initiated a number of overseas real estate development projects, including the USD 2 billion overseas housing project in Islamabad. The project is one of nine such developments launched for overseas Pakistanis who can now purchase property in Pakistan using their ‘Roshan Digital Account (RDA).’
