The premier said this in a meeting with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana on the sidelines of the 6th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia. He said that the energy-rich Tajikistan is an important bilateral and regional partner of Pakistan with deep historic ties with the country. He said the connectivity will bring more trade and people-to-people contacts, increasing employment opportunities. He was also of the view that the early completion of the CASA 1000 project, between Pakistan and Tajikistan, is a game changer with the potential to bring an end to the energy scarcity in the country.
On the occasion, both dignitaries highlighted the need for regional cooperation for peace and stability to enhance business opportunities.

It is important to mention that Tajikistan is one of the energy-rich countries in the world with large resources of gas and fossil fuels. The landlocked country, however, is dependent on the neighbouring countries with ports for trade. Access to Pakistani ports is also an opportunity for Tajikistan to become a partner in the China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor (CPEC) project.
