Islamabad: Pakistan and South Korea are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to preserve and promote Gandhara heritage, according to news published on Monday (October 4). As per the agreement, the South Korean government will provide a grant of USD 4 million for the preservation of the remains of the ancient region located in northwest Pakistan.

South Korean Ambassador Suh Sangpyo on Sunday (October 3) stated that this MoU will facilitate the Korean Buddhist Tourism project, which was discussed during the visit of the President of Jogye Order to Pakistan in 2019. He went on to say that both the countries have other aspects to focus on as well for bilateral cooperation. It was also disclosed that Pakistan and Korea are working together to safely move Afghan nationals from Kabul to Korea via Islamabad.

Moreover, the ambassador revealed that the Economic Development Cooperation Fund – a soft loan provided to developing countries – of USD 1 billion will be provided to Pakistan for 5 years. Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood and Chairman Senate Committee on Defence Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed also spoke at the event.
