Islamabad: Pakistani authorities have asked Iran to lift its sanctions and limitations on transit permits for goods transported via land to Russia, the Middle East, and Central Asian countries, according to a news source.
Iran had halted issuing these permits around four years ago for Pakistani goods such as wheat, fodder, straw, carrot, and garlic. Pakistan used to send these goods to Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Bahrain, Oman, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Minister for National Food Security and Research Sahibzada Mehboob Sultan discussed this matter with Iranian ambassador Mehdi Honardoost. Due to the curb on transit permits, goods were being transported by sea at a higher cost. Sultan emphasised that both countries can benefit from exploring the opportunities sharing borders offers. Both sides expressed the desire for stronger bilateral relations, especially when it comes to trade and regional security.
