Islamabad: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood on Tuesday revealed that Pakistan’s exports had risen by 5.8% in July; when contrasted with the figure recorded for the same period last year — a news source reported. He called it a ‘major achievement’ amid the country’s ongoing coronavirus pandemic situation that has generally resulted in a decline in exports.

As per the information available, national exports increased from USD 1.88 billion in July 2019 to USD 1.99 billion in July 2020. The PM’s advisor added that the changes had come on the back of the government’s ‘Make in Pakistan’ initiative.
The exports in March 2020 had contracted by 8%, as compared to March 2019, and the trend had continued as exports further declined by 54% in April, 35% in May and 6% in June.

At the same time, Pakistan also saw its imports decline by 4.2% to USD 3.54 billion during July, as compared to the USD 3.69 billion figure recorded during July 2019.
