Islamabad: Pakistan, on account of approximately 1.4% of its annual gross domestic product (GDP) allocation towards charity, has been ranked among the most charitable nations in the world, a news source reported. As per the publication, the UK and Canada’s annual charity GDP allocations stand at 1.3% and 1.2%, respectively.

According to the statistics shared by the Asian World — an international magazine — 45% of Pakistanis earn less than USD 2 per day, and yet the country still managed to become one of the most charitable nations in the world. As per the figures shared by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy, Pakistanis give PKR 240 billion to help others — with 98% of this charity constituting of money and food donations.

Reportedly, information based on a countrywide survey revealed that 67% of philanthropists in Pakistan help the needy and poor directly, while the remaining 33% prefer giving their donations to charitable organizations known for helping people.

Studies also revealed that Pakistanis give 72% of their total charity for a year during the holy month of Ramzan, while Karachi is the most-charity-giving city of in the country.
