Islamabad: Pakistan Railways (PR) is set to receive PKR 14 billion from the federal government for the rehabilitation of its infrastructure, which was extensively damaged by the devastating rains and floods in Balochistan, news sources reported on January 3.

The funds, as approved in the PC-I, will be used exclusively for the purpose of rebuilding the rail infrastructure that has been damaged in the province. This includes a new 100-kilometre track between Ahmedwal and Dalbadin on the Quetta-Taftan section, the rehabilitation of the track between Nokundi Kohi and Taftan on the Quetta-Taftan section, and the 160.024-kilometre track between Bostan and Chaman on the Quetta-Chaman section. The Ministry of Railway announced that these works will not only increase connectivity between Balochistan and other provinces, but it will also bring about new job opportunities for the local population.

It is important to mention In August, Pakistan Railways train operations at various sections, mainly in Balochistan and Sindh, were suspended after flash floods washed away the tracks. However, the department was able to resume operations after reconstructing the affected track within a few days.
