Islamabad: Pakistan Railways is planning to utilise 10,913 acres of barren land across the country introducing more projects, stated a news report. Pakistan Railways has 8,424 acres of barren land in Punjab, 1,346 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 263 in Sindh, and 880 in Balochistan. Almost 15,172 acres of land is allocated for various purposes across the country and 3,330 acres is under encroachment by different departments and individuals.
Apart from this, 12,808 acres have been reserved in the four provinces for future operational uses; including 4,364 acres in Punjab, 1,800 acres in KP, 900 acres in Sindh, and 5,744 acres in Balochistan. More than 6,000 acres have been leased out across country to different departments and private persons for generating extra revenue; 5,132 acres in Punjab, 833 in Sindh, 470 in KP, and 59 acres in Balochistan.
