Officers from the department had visited the spot a day before the operation, and found the front of the state-owned land occupied by a long line of shopkeepers. They directed the traders to remove their establishments, along with their belongings, and to have the area cleared out by the end of the day. They warned that if the shopkeepers did not comply with their demands, all their belongings would be confiscated.

On Wednesday, the officials arrived with heavy machinery, which included bulldozers, and demolished all the shops which were in violation of the law. Even though many of the shopkeepers had left their spots and removed their belongings, some had selected to do nothing. However, as per their warning, the Railways officials confiscated all the stock found in the remaining shops and had it moved to a secure location.
