Lahore: Pakistan Railways has registered a growth of PKR 2 billion during its first 100 days ever since the new government took charge, a news source quote Pakistan Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed. A thorough report regarding the department’s performance in this time period has also been prepared.
According to this report, 10 new trains were introduced during this period to facilitate passengers, while the number of cargo trains was increased from 10 to 14. In addition to that, Pakistan Railways also initiated the process of hiring 10,000 more people.
The report also mentions of agreements inked between Pakistan and China on project design of Main Line-1. Furthermore, talks are also underway to hand over power distribution services in Railway Colonies to private companies as this will save PKR 1 billion annually. In terms of extra income, Pakistan Railways has signed deals for transmission of coal; this will help Pakistan Railways earn PKR 5 billion every year. Rasheed has also issued orders to install trackers in railway engines and set up CCTV cameras to stop incidents of oil theft.
The report also mentions the setting up of a Railway Division in Gwadar. In addition to that, the process of land acquisition to connect Gwadar with Quetta and Jacobabad is also underway.
