As per an unnamed official source in the Ministry of Railways, this rehabilitated track will both facilitate travellers and improve the connectivity between the three major cities of Balochistan. He also said that the department has improved provincial railway service by getting approval of PC-I for the track’s restoration and taking up rehabilitation of another 100-kilometre-long track between Ahmedwal and Dalbadin on the Quetta-Taftan section.
The same source revealed that the railway network in Balochistan mainly encompasses the Quetta division with tracks including Quetta-Chaman, Dera Allah Yar Sibi-Quetta, Sibi-Khost, Bostan-Zhob (which has remained closed for the last 15 years), and Spezend-Dalbandin-Taftan sections.
It was also revealed that the railway network in the province spans over 1,470.36 kilometres, which includes the closed Bostan-Zhob section. The official highlighted that some sections of this network are aged over a century and due to delayed maintenance and resource constraints, certain speed restrictions are imposed on several stretches.
