Lahore: Pakistan Railways (PR) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shahid Aziz announced that the preparatory work related to the approval of the project including bidding, floating tenders, and award of the contract will start by the end year, according to news published in the national dailies on August 29.

The news source mentioned that the civil work of the Main Line-1 (ML-1) project will not be initiated this year. Once ML-1’s implementation begins, PR aims to kickstart the ML-2 project, connecting Kotri to Attock.
Aziz urged the government to resolve foreign currency payment issues, adversely affecting PR’s freight business. With security in mind, Aziz stated that major railway stations across the country are now equipped with CCTV cameras.

Earlier this month, Former PR Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique shared that a Pakistan-China agreement signing will be held in October, potentially leading to project commencement by January 2024.
