Lahore: The Pakistan Railways (PR) on Wednesday announced to form its eighth division at the Gwadar deep seaport, a news source reported. Pakistan Railways Chairman Sikandar Sultan Raja issued a notification to this effect.

Through this initiative, the railways administration aims to connect Gwadar with the existing railways network in the country. Currently, the Pakistan Railways has its divisions in Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Multan, Quetta, and Sukkur.
PR Chairman Sikandar Sultan Raja said that the Gwadar deep seaport had become operational and required rail connectivity with the existing rail network at Spenxand (Quetta) and Jacobabad. The notification also mentioned that the Main Line-4 (ML-4) for Gwadar connectivity was recently made operational.
The statement added that the land-acquisition process for the establishment of a railway corridor, yards, and hiring of staff was underway under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) as approved by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) last year.

Moreover, in order to set up the Pakistan Railways Gwadar division and speed up the work, the railways administration has appointed Hanif Gul as the Divisional Superintendent (DS) at the port city.
