Karachi: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday (August 11) extended the lease of Pakistan Quarters for another 54 years after 26 years of expiration, news sources reported. The lease of Pakistan Quarters had expired in 1995 and since then the residents were facing a threat of expulsion from their homes.

The federal government paid PKR 413 million to the government of Sindh for the lease extension after which the Revenue Department released the extension papers. A member of the legislature informed media reporters that the government is planning to build a housing scheme for the residents of Pakistan Quarters.

Previously, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail pledged to settle the concerns of Pakistan Quarter’s inhabitants facing expulsion from the Sindh government due to lease expiration. The governor also told the local delegation that the government would offer them better alternatives.
