Islamabad: The Council of Common Interests (CCI) on Thursday (January 13) approved the 7th Population & Housing Census in the country, news sources reported. The decision was taken in the 49th CCI meeting held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and was attended by the Chief Ministers (CMs) of the four provinces.

According to reports, the forthcoming census will be conducted utilising cutting-edge technology and Geographical Information System (GIS) and would adhere to the best practices exercised worldwide. The Housing Census is scheduled to take place before the Population Census. The conference also approved the formation of a Census Monitoring Committee to examine the real-time process and ensure that census activities are timely, transparent, and trustworthy. The committee will be led by the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, and its members will include all provincial chief secretaries, the chairman of NADRA, the chief commissioner of ICT, and other top officials.

Moreover, the CCI also discussed the water requirements of Karachi will be looked into by the committee formed to reconcile views of the provinces at the technical and political levels and issues pertaining to the water woes.
