Islamabad: During a meeting with the head of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Gokhan Umut, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Amin Gandapur invited Turkey to invest in Pakistan’s northern areas — with the initiative aimed at boosting tourism in the country, a news source reported on Friday (August 28).

According to the details available, the minister highlighted that Gilgit-Baltistan attracted nearly 2 million tourists annually, and that it offered great investment opportunities for foreign investors. He further pointed out that the government was also working on industrial development in these areas in order to boost the local economy — with special economic zones also expected to be established for this purpose.

Additionally, these zones are expected to be a part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative. This large scale project will involve the development of an extensive network of infrastructure and communications systems around the country; all the way from China’s Xinjiang province in the north, to the Gwadar port in the south.
