Lahore: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Tuesday stated that Pakistan had jumped 31 positions, from 142 to 111, on the Trading Across Border Index; adding that the improvement seen in the ranking reflected the government’s efforts to improve ease of doing business in the country.

The change in Trading Across Border Index has also helped Pakistan improve its position on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business 2020 rankings. According to details, the country climbed from 136th to the 108th spot; enjoying the distinction of being reported among the top 10 countries that did the most to improve ease of doing business during the said year.

The taxation agency’s efforts to improve the border trade access include enhancing the integration of various agencies in the Web-Based One Customs (WEBOC) electronic system; reducing the number of documents required for import / export clearances; and enhancing capacities of Pakistan Customs officials for playing pro-active role in smoothly regulating border trade.
