Islamabad: The Ministry of Finance has asked the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to complete all the requisites to start barter trade between Iran and Pakistan, news sources reported on November 23.

In this respect, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Finance presided over by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Revenue Tariq Pasha. He urged that the relevant authorities increase the focus on traded items and use the Barter Trade Module in conjunction with its Wayback Automation to begin the barter trade. The meeting was also briefed that Iran needed wheat, rice, cotton, and so on, and Pakistan wants to address its energy issue; nevertheless, both nations might satisfy each other’s demands through barter trading.

It is worth noting that Pakistan and Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct ‘border marketplaces’ along border areas. According to the deal, Pakistan and Iran would construct cooperative border markets in Gabd, Mund, and Chedgi in Balochistan, close the Iranian border.
