Islamabad: The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), an Abu Dhabi based agency, has said that there is plenty of scope for renewable energy in Pakistan, but the country lacks clear targets for power generation, according to a news report. The agency has prepared a comprehensive analysis of the energy sector to identify the key steps that should be taken to accelerate renewable energy development.
The IRENA has also said that ambition to increase production of renewable energy needs to be translated into a language that investors can understand.
According to IRENA Director General Adnan Amin, Pakistan has a lot of opportunities to increase energy production through solar, hydro, and wind resources, utilising these means will increase national prosperity and create new jobs.
Commenting on this, Minister for Power Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari said that the government aims to ensure cheap and continuous power to supply for growing share of renewable energy.
